What do you mean by "the Good Society"?
Josh discovered this term in a college social studies textbook. The book used it to describe the idealistic society that so many philosophers, theologians, and framers of government have yearned for and talked about.

Many have referred to this society as "utopia", a word which means "nowhere" in Greek. This meaning corresponds pretty well to how we use it in modern society. We talk about utopia as something everyone would like but which is just a pipe dream, not something we can actually have. But 13 Seasons began with the belief that it is possible. We can make it happen. We just needed to figure out how.
The Greek philosopher Plato described his vision of utopia in The Republic. We don't endorse everything written in that book but we love his concept that arete (translated to "virtue" or "excellence") is the purpose of the ideal city.
Societies often make survival and comfort the main goal of their economies and structures but Plato wrote that the ideal society would be structured around helping everyone pursue their best selves and that as they do so, the city becomes its best self. All efforts to improve survival and comfort would be done in a way that also helps everyone pursue virtue/excellence.

Like Plato, we yearn for communities where the goal is virtue. We believe that as individuals grow in virtue, these communities will come to be. We smile as we imagine these communities recognizing the 13 virtue seasons together and holding wonderful festivals throughout the year to celebrate each one.
